Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix (Arizona) as the daughter of Juanita Cordova and Colby Carter. Her father is of English and has Scots Irish heritage and her mother is Mexican and Spanish. She has a brother, Vincent and a sister, Pamela. Carter was five years old when she made her public television debut on Lew King's Talent Show. While in high school Carter was part of a group known as Just Us. The group played marimba, conga drums an acoustic and stand-up basses. One girl from the group was also a guitarist. At the age of 15, Lynda began singing at the local pizza shop for extra cash. [8] At 16, Lynda teamed up with two cousins in forming another band, The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer for The Relatives. The band was first introduced in Las Vegas at the Sahara Hotel and Casino Lounge. Carter was 21 years old when she first entered the kitchen. She was named "Most gifted" and decided to go into the world of music. In 1970, Carter auditioned and then sang on the road together with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first show together was held in the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco, which was so brand new that it didn't have a sidewalk entrance. Consequently, they played mostly to the hotel staff and guests of the hotel who parked their automobiles in the underground garage. The Garfin Gathering performed shows throughout the Nevada "Silver Circuit" and also in many of Nevada's casino lounges. Carter was able to quit the Garfin Gathering in 1972 to pursue acting, and then returned to Arizona.
